The first instrument that I researched was the drums. The drums is Africas main instrument that plays. I also enjoy playing the drums for fun or just simply listening to the drums . I personally feel like that the drums Is what makes a song a song and it makes the listener be engaged. In the African culture they have multiple instruments to percussion the one that stood out to me the most was djembe this instrument I see very commonly in any music video or of showing culture. When I went to this around the world thing for church. There was different people from across the world and they were using that exact instrument it is always interesting to watch instruments being played beautifully. This instrument I guess could be common because it is easy to use so any age you can use it. This is not also admiring of how children of that culture can use it but of how mesmerizing it sounds.
Another interesting instrument is one of the instruments that has been around the longest. This instrument is called the Gankogui. When I learn about something I always like to see what has been around longer and what is the most popular. Those types of things draw me to them to learn more about them. With the Gankogui is an bell. Not only does It have 1 bell but it has two. It is a metal bell idiaphome from Ghana. This instrument where it is a idiaphome family. while I was searching this up it had other names as well
next I googled African singers from Africa and one that popped out was Akon. I like R&B and to hear him sing in that way was so cool to hear. I love the way it sounds. Although it sounds similar to American R&B it is also very different. one time I saw it pop up while looking him up I saw that he sang and had a music video with Michael Jackson. so not only is he popular where he is from he was also in a way recognized with that I thought that was cool.
Its interesting how the metal bell was one of the earliest instruments. I enjoy Akon as well it is interesting to see him singing with this type of music since I am more used to the popular songs he puts out.
ReplyDeleteI too love to listen and play the drums. The drums are a cool instrument and more complex than I previously thought. It is also cool that you talked about the bell. I’ve seen l similar instruments on tv but never with two bells attached together
ReplyDeleteThe Gankogui seems very interesting, especially since it is one of the instruments that has been around the longest. Why would a metal bell be one of the oldest instruments? It could be that we just don't know about others. I also enjoy listening to the drums, as the rhytmn and beat of the them tend to ground me when I feel out of it.
ReplyDeleteOddly enough I have a love for percussion and i’m glad you touched on that. The Akon thing is also really interesting, I enjoyed that.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely loved the visuals of the music video and the vocals, while not my cup of tea, were not half bad so that is definitely a good find.
ReplyDeleteI had no idea that Akon made that song. I really liked it and I think it was really cool of him to make something that was a little different from his usual songs.
ReplyDeleteI also wrote about the gankogui in my blog! Also, I love that R&B artist you found, Akon. That music video was really cool too.
