Middle East music

In this blog I will be talking about Indian folk music. The folk Indian music is vastly diverse because of Indias culture diversity. In India there is a vastly amount of folk music. One of the folk music is baul music this type of folk music represents the long lasting heritage of worship. Baul Sangeet is a type of music where they can say their feelings in a song but never having written records of the songs they sing. A type of Baul folk music in the west is the Bhataili or Bhatiyali This is a type of music where fisherman mainly sing the songs along the rivers of India. The word Bhatiyali comes from the word ebb or downstream.

One of the instruments that is used in the western baul is the ektara. This instrument is very common for a Baul singer. This instrument is one string instrument that makes such a beautiful sound. The way to use this instrument is to have it up right where you grip the neck just above the resonator while you pluck the string with your index finger. While learning about this I started to like this instrument and and in some ways its very similar to a guitar.

The other instruments that are used in folk Indian music is a sitar. This instrument is used in India where Pakastan . It has a deep pear shape to it and uniquely accompanied with other cool features . In some ways its like a guitar too.

  1. The Indian folk music baul sounds very interesting. Baul Sangeet sounds the most interesting to me because they never have any written records of the songs they sing. The sound of the ektara is beautiful. I enjoyed listening to it.

  4. Listening to your Baul Sangeet was very intriguing, the instrumentation is very disjunct and almost out of sync in a way. This makes it very unique and almost adds to the value of the song.

  5. The instrument is interesting as it only has a single string; I can see some pros in the instrument as how easy it would be to fabricate the instrument and to maintain it, but I also see how it might be too simple as it cannot do much different ranges.
